In memory

On this day 36 years ago. 241 US  Military service members were killed. Including 220 Marines when their Barracks in Beirut was bombed by a terrorist group. Most people don't know the importance of this day October 23, bu tI grew up hearing about and knowing about it.  My dad lost his Marine brothers on that date.  We must always remember our fallen. They weren't at war when this happened they were on a Peace Keeping mission.

The Start of my Summer or Why the New Gilmore Girl's thing on Netflix is bitter Sweet

I've been absent from both my blogs since May. Not so odd for my personal blog but slightly unusual for my book blog. One reason stems from the fact that for a while I didn't feel like reading anything. So nothing to review. I wish that my absence from the blog had indeed been because I didn't feel like reading.  Cause that means I could pretend that what happened this year in May was just a bad dream. But I can't pretend it's just a bad dream, because it really did happen.

It's taking me almost six months to be at a point that I can finally write about it. What happened in May is something that no matter how old you are you are never really prepared for. There's no way one can ever be prepared for. I'm also hoping by getting this written and posted to the blog; I can get back into a normal posting schedule.

On May 21st of this year my mom passed away suddenly. We had no warning. She was fine on the 20th and then the next day she was gone. We were in shock. I wasn't prepared to lose my mom when I was only 28.  My dad was in shock he had just lost his wife of almost 30 years and my sister as well. At 19 she was planning on a normal summer between her sophomore and junior year of college. And then my grandparents had to bury their daughter. So needless to say we were all in shock and a fog. But somehow I was the one who was able to put my grief aside to plan everything.

Other than gravesite and tombstone my parents hadn't really planned much. So everything had to be planned in a short period of time. My dad wanted to the funeral and visitation if all possible taken care of before May 28th not because he wanted to rush anything. He just didn't want me to have to go through either thing on my 29th birthday.( Which I didn't really celebrate, but that's another blog post.) But he was to shocked to do the planning. But I did take the time to grieve. I held together basically to the day of the visitation and as soon as by best friend showed up to the funeral home and gave me a hug I broke down. And finally cried the tears I was holding back to get through everything.

So I did everything with the planning from picking out the casket, to the guest book and cards. To the pictures. I picked out 40 pictures that ended up being in the slide show that they had playing.
Instead of flowers on the casket my mom wouldn't have wanted us to waste money on flowers because her view of flowers was unless they were ones you could plant it was a waste of money. So instead we had a quilt draped over the casket. She loved to quilt. So we felt that fit her better. The three songs I ended up picking for her funeral was  When I get where I am going by Brad Paisley and Dolly Parton, My Wish by Rascal Flatts, and Go Rest High by Vince Gill. The pastor who preached her funeral chose 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 because of the simple fact that my mom loved her family. It was also her favorite Bible verse and it's one of my favorites as well.

But losing my mom has also made me stronger and a better daughter and sister because in the last six months I've grown closer to my dad. My dad my sister and I have learned to better talk with each other. And to share what's going on.

But losing my mom has also made the netflix Gilmore girl's showing bitter sweet. My mom and I loved that show. As well as the relationship that Loreli and Rory had. So yes I am going to watch but I will be doing so with a blanket tissues and ice cream. Knowing that my mom wouldn't want me to mourn for the rest of my life. She would want me to remember her and the happy times and to continue to live my life.

I wish that it was the only sad event of the summer but it's not. That's another blog post.

Word for 2016

My words for the year are thankful and warrior. Thankful because I want to be thankful for all that God has blessed me with last year. And how He will bless me this year. Warrior because I want this year I want to become a prayer warrior.
My Bible verse for this year will be the same as last year

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

2015 Wrap Up

It's hard to believe that tomorrow is the last day of 2015. It seems like the year just started and now it's over.  I started 2015 having been out of college for six months still in doubt about the future and without a full time job. My words for this were trusting and waiting.  This was because I was trusting and waiting on God's timing and trusting His plan for my life.  I was also standing on these Bible verses for the year as well.
I Say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentation 3:24.

My other verse the same as last year is
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

These verses helped get though a year a waiting. Because this year was about waiting and trusting God. And He came through in a big way. Proving that His timing is always prefect.  That is because 2015 is ending with me having a full time job that allows me to use my degree, making a little bit more than I would in my degree field. I am not a officially  a Library Assistant I get to spend all day taking about books and I get paid for it. Not to mention that I now have peace about going to grad school. I'm going and my chosen Master's field is an MLS, a Master's in Library Science.

2015 was a pretty great year and I can't wait to see what 2016 holds.

Another year

Today I am another year older, and hopefully another wiser. While I am still learning to walk with the Lord I am closer to Him now than I was this time last year. I finally content in where I am in life, God has me where he wants me for this stage of me in this season of my life. Not only can I trust God’s plan I can trust God’s promises. Am I where I thought would be at 28 no, but I am where God wants me to be for this season in my life. For now that is enough for now. To the point that turning thirty in two yeas doesn’t even phase me like I thought it would. Life is an adventure and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter brings.

Today also marks ten years since I graduated high school. Time does fly. I wonder what the next ten years will bring.

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day and to most people especially in my generation and younger people see it as a three day weekend and the unofficial start to summer. But for me and many others it is to remember why we are a free nation. The man and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. To give their lives so that others might live and be free.  Which again reminds me of a quote I don’t know who said it but it does ring true. Only two people ever chose to die for you, Jesus and the American Service member. One died to save your Soul and to give you eternal life. The American Service member died to protect your freedom.

But Memorial Day means more, because it’s not only the military service member be it Solider, Sailor, Airman or Marine who made the ultimate sacrifice it is their families as well. Not only are they Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, or Marines they are husbands, wives, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers. The ones they leave behind also give the ultimate sacrifice of the loss of their loved ones.

Of the family left behind the one that hits me the hardest is the children left behind. To me behind the service member who makes the ultimate sacrifice it is the child who makes the hardest, and most heartbreaking sacrifice because they will continue to go through life without their parents. As a military child myself these kids have my deepest respect because to me they have more strength and courage respect and honor for their country than most.

So this Memorial Day remember those who died fighting for their country but also remember their families as well. Honor the fallen and pray for the living.

January Wrap up

January
January was a busy month that seems to have flown by and now its February. The beginning of January saw my little sister going back for the second semester of her freshman year of college. It also saw me finally decide what I want to get my masters degree in. Now it’s just taking the GRE and applying to Grad school. I am going to be getting a masters in Social work.
January also brought the start of new Bible study Free from Bondage God’s way by Kay Arthur. The study so far is awesome and just what I need.

January also brought about me working a lot of overtime because I am determined to have most of my student loan debt paid off by July.

Bible Verses for 2015

Bible Verses for 2015
I realize that I’ve posted what  my words were for the year. But I forgot to post what my Bible verses are for the year. One is the same as 2014, and the other is a verse that I had used in 2013.
The verse from 2013 that I am using again is

I Say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.” Lamentation 3:24.

My other verse the same as last year is
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

Both of the verses are verses that truly fit this year because I am waiting and trusting and putting my future in God’s hands. Why I wait to see about Grad school and finding a full time job in my field.

My Words for 2015

My words for 2015 is Trust and waiting. Because I feel that I am going to need them both this year. As I spend the year waiting and trusting my Lord. While I wait to hear back from jobs in my field and wait to hear about Grad school.

God has NOT placed most of us in the place we are. Our bad decisions and choices have landed us here. However, if we're truly Christians and give our life to God while confessing our sins, He will act and guide us where we need to be. He may not 'fix everything' as most of our current situations took some time to create.

Goodbye 2014 and An Update

I hadn’t actually planned to forget this blog but things happened.  I thought when I graduated in May with my BS I thought that I would have more time to blog, but life and keeping up with my book review blog got in the way. So starting in January I am  hoping to at least post once a month. With a monthly update to basically sum up the month until I can get into a normal more often blogging schedule.

2014 brought lots of changes, I graduated in May with my BS in Criminal Justice. Yes I know that most people think you can only get a job in law enforcement or go to law school.  No I am not going to do that. Yes I plan on get my masters. No I am not getting it in Criminal Justice. I getting my Masters in Social work. Yes I will actually use my degree. And now while I am studying for the GRE and finding online master’s programs for social work and looking for a job in my field. While I do that I am still at the library in a different job than the one that I had while still in school, but still a library employee.
On top of it all my baby sister graduated from high school and started her freshman year of college. Which was bittersweet. So we spent the summer getting in as much family time as possible

Veterans Day

Thank you to all you have served and are serving.  It is because of you that I am able to enjoy the freedoms I have as an American. I may not be able to fill their shoes but I will ALWAYS support our troops.

Happy Birthday USMC

Happy 239th Birthday United States Marine Corp

Every since I was a child November 10 was celebrated as a birthday in my house.  Even though it was no ones birthday, it is however the birthday of my dad's beloved Marine Corps.  My dad proudly served in the United States Marine Corp during the 80's between what was left of the cold war and the first Gulf War.  Though he got out before he meet my mom he reenlisted after I was born and served for another 15 years.  But like most of our Military he was the first to pray for peace, because no one hates war like a solider or Marine hates war.

Love it! Marine FamilyTun Tavern. Birthplace of the Marines!
